WEEK SIX

(Romans 11 & 12)

It’s week 6! We’re not far from finishing this incredible letter from Paul- let’s lean in this week and get absolutely everything we can.

In chapters 11-12, Paul talks about how God made room in His Family for those who are not Israelites (which is nearly, if not absolutely, everyone reading this), and how we’re called to live in light of that.

1. In Romans 11, Paul overviews the inclusion of the Gentiles (all non-ethnic Jews) into the family of God. Romans 11:12 says that the transgressions of Israel means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles. What does this mean? How do you understand it? Does your theology have room for God, for a time, including some at the expense of others? You must understand that God doesn't “make the Jewish people not believe;” they choose that individually. But God uses their choice to change everything for the Gentiles.

2. Romans 11:29 says that God’s gift and His call are irrevocable. That means that no matter what we do, they’re not going anywhere. How can this give you confidence in your own life and walk with God?

3. Two of the most well-known verses, at least in church circles, are Romans 12:1-2. Reread them, and think about how these verses describe how we change, and the motivation for change. (The answers of both are found in the verses).

4. Romans 12:3 says “do not think more highly of yourself than you ought;” not that you shouldn’t think highly of yourself. You just cannot allow your view of yourself to be clouded with arrogance to where you no longer see yourself accurately. Do you tend to struggle more with thinking too highly of yourself, or too low? How does what Jesus did for you on the Cross speak to both of those?

5. It can be hard, at times, to believe that all of our giftings truly are significant and essential. But reread Romans 12:4-8. What does that say about the importance of your gift, even if it isn’t the most often celebrated gifts of preaching, leading or singing? HOW CAN YOU USE YOUR GIFT, THIS MONTH (AND BEYOND) IN YOUR CHURCH?
